Review on "Dance like a man" by Mahesh Dattani

In Indian culture, we observe many a times opinions are given mainly gender biased. This inequality not only affects the life of women in the patriarchal society but also affects the life of men.The root or reason for this also can be found in patriarchy itself. When Mahesh Dattani makes his character to speak a dialogue like,
"“A woman in a man’s world may be considered as being progressive. But a man in a woman’s world, pathetic”.
We as society, have not missed even the form of art (expression of freedom) to label it as related to particular gender or caste. The protagonist of the Play  "Dance like a man" is asked by society,
'what does he do?
'He is a dancer.'
'Yes. But what does he do?'
' He is...'
Society has a problem with art and art has the problem is society, it also another truth. The sarcasm on society very well presented through a play "Dance like a man" by Mahesh Dattani.A dancer, Jairaj wants to make his career in classical dance. As per the social norms,a curved body of a woman is suitable for dance. And when a man does this,it would be a touch of woman's way in him.The binaries we have programmed in mind. That is problematic. Even we are not flexible to change our mind. The suffering of the protagonist, Jairaj is mainly presented by the playwright throughout the play.
Reading a play and then after watching a drama, one comes across many differences. Dattani has imagined many places in his written form but it is not exact possible to make it while performing at various settings. But he manages as a director of the play. The lighting of the play here becomes the soul, as it glorifies many scenes.Dattani presents the universally appealing issue In front of us.

It is the representation of the Theater of Absurd, the meaninglessness of time, place and identity. According to Michael Billington, The Birthday Party is a deeply political play about the individual’s imperative need for resistance.
