Ghashiram Kotwal is a play by Vijay Tendulkar. There are two acts in the play. Characters are: 
Ghashiram Kotwal 
Nana Phadnavis 
Gulabi 
Sutradhar 
Gauri
Bhahman from poona



In the beginning,there is a scene of invocation of Lord Ganesha, goddess Saraswati and goddess lakshmi.And then the Brahmans introduce them to sutradhar,one is vedantic scholar, one is an astrologer, one is a linguist.At the end they say, they are all Poona bhahmans. In the another scene, sutradhar holds some bramhans and asks them, "where are they going?" They say "to temple" and he again asks" why"And there is a scene of Bhavanakhani where Gulabi dances to pleasure Bhahmans of Poona at the same time Nana also comes and dances erotically with Gulabi. His ankle sprains, Ghashiram offers his back to support him. Ghashiram is a Brahman from kanauj who has come to Poona city to make his fortune with his family.After that there is a scene of Dakshina ceremony where Brahmans come to be rewarded and for bhojan. Ghashiram also come there. Some officials humaliate him and blames him for stealing dakshina of another brahman. The truth is that he is not the thief even he is sent to a jail. Another prisoner communicates with him and he declares himself as thief. He decides to be an evil person and will take a revenge for this humaliation.At the other side, Nana Phadnavis is attracted towards Gauri who is a daughter of Ghashiram. Ghashiram purchases power in exchange of Gauri. And he becomes a Kotwal of poona.Poona city lives under thread in the rule of Ghashiram Kotwal. The person from outside comes in power. In the next scene, there is a ceremony of Nana's seventh marriage. Ghashiram searches for Gauri. She was pregnant and murdered by Nana. Ghashiram can't take revenge from Nana as he is a servant of him. The mob ( Poona bhahmans) become angry on Ghashiram. Many Brahmans die in prison as they couldn't breathe. At the end the order of killing Ghashiram is given by Nana. And the mob kills Ghashiram. There is a tragic end of the main character.
